The Second Sunday of September is Pet Memorial Sunday
Rituals build community, creating a meeting ground where people can share deep feelings or…keep a solemn silence. Join us for Pet Memorial Sunday.
The International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories established the second Sunday of September as Pet Memorial Sunday and for the last 20 years I have sponsored an event to recognize the loss of our beloved pets.
Our Pet Memorial Sunday ceremony
Our ceremony includes recorded presentations to watch at your convenience, a live event where we all gather and share our love for our animal companions, and a video presentation of the event created afterward.
Leading up to the ceremony
The event involves three presentations:
- Dr Mike Pensenstadler, VMD – “Our Last Moments Together”
- Ms Elizabeth Babcock, LCSW – ” Our Grief Response”
- Ms Bernadette Kazmarski, artist/writer – “Loving After Loss”
The presentations are recorded. A link to each presentation is sent during the week leading up to the ceremony to those who RSVP to watch or read as many times as you’d like.
During the live ceremony
Each participant is invited to write a 50-word tribute that we read during the ceremony.
Then together we recite an affirmation and commit ourselves to let go of the pain, guilt and grief and we watch as a flock of doves is released skyward.
After the ceremony
Each year, the 50-word tributes are united with pictures of the pets into a “Tribute Scroll” that is a memento of the event and is available on my website on the Tribute Scroll page.
There is no charge for this event, but registration is required since information will be exchanged via the internet.
